چکیده
INTRODUCTION Age-related macular degeneration (ARMD) is a very common cause of vision loss especially in elderly patients living in developed countries. ARMD is caused by the accumulation of drusen in the macula, which is the most important part of the retina, and this process ends in serious irreversible visual impairment. Pigment epithelial detachment (PED) may be seen in all stages of ARMD and may lead to poor prognosis because of retina pigment epithelial (RPE) tears, submacular haemorrhage and, finally, disciform scars. ANCHOR and MARINA studies showed that the vascular endothelial growth factor inhibitor (anti-VEGF), ranibizumab, was effective in the treatment of neovascular ARMD and repeated injections improved or preserved visual acuity (VA). However, these large studies did not provide specific information about ARMD patients with PED. In this study, we retrospectively examined the effect of anti-VEGF treatments in ARMD patients with vascularized PED.

Transpupilary thermotherapy of occult subfoveal choroidal neovascularization secondary to age related macular degeneration
Abstract Background: Transpupillary thermotherapy is a new treatment for subfoveal choroidal neovascularization which needs further evaluation. This study was aimed to evaluate the efficacy of transpupillary thermotherapy on regression of occult subfoveal choroidal neovascularization with or without pigment epithelial detachment in patients with age-related macular degeneration. Methods: In a ...
متن کاملPigment epithelial tears associated with anti-VEGF therapy: incidence, long-term visual outcome, and relationship with pigment epithelial detachment in age-related macular degeneration.
PURPOSE To evaluate the prevalence of retinal pigment epithelium (RPE) tears associated with anti-VEGF therapy and its relation with retinal pigment epithelial detachment (PED). METHODS A total of 226 patients with exudative age-related macular degeneration treated with intravitreal anti-VEGF were included retrospectively in the study. The presence of RPE tears; the effect of the presence, he...
متن کاملRanibizumab in the Treatment of Chronic Central Serous Chorio Retinopathy
Introduction: Central serous chorio-retinopathy is self-limited in the majority of patients, who usually retain excellent vision. However, those who do not resolve spontaneously may develop permanent visual impairment because of pigment epithelial and photoreceptor damage. Most clinicians prefer to observe these patients for three months before considering any treatment options because most cas...
متن کاملBilateral Refractive Changes in Vascularized Pigment Epithelial Detachment Treated by Anti-VEGF Therapy
We report the case of a patient bilaterally treated with anti-VEGF compounds for bilateral massive vascularized retinal pigment epithelial detachment (PED). During the years prior to treatment, PED growth was accompanied by gradual hypermetropization. After right intraocular injection of bevacizumab followed by three bilateral aflibercept injections, the PED flattened resulting in a rapid relat...
متن کاملHigh Dose Intravitreal Bevacizumab for Refractory Pigment Epithelial Detachment in Age-related Macular Degeneration
PURPOSE Intravitreal anti-vascular endothelial growth factor (anti-VEGF) is the first choice of treatment for age-related macular degeneration. However, quite a few eyes treated using conventional dose anti-VEGF (CDAV) have persistent pigment epithelial detachment (PED) on optical coherence tomography. This study investigated the efficacy and safety of high dose anti-VEGF (HDAV) for refractory ...
